Brian, I'm assuming that, like last year, the Week 1 Ratings are a function of last week's games plus the projections with less and less weight on the projections as the season progresses. If that's the case how can the FEI for teams that don't have an FBS game yet like Florida, Ga Tech, Arkansas, et al. Thanks.
. . . how can the FEI change? (that's what I was trying to ask.)
Thanks Brian.
Would you post the link to the spreadsheet if you have it available. I would like to take a look at the offensive and defensive breakdowns.
Thanks.
For all teams without an FBS game, the FEI listed is the same as the Projected FEI - no change. For those with a game under their belts, the change is reflective of the performance in the game and the reciprocal performance of the opponent.
As for Off/Def breakdowns, I will be waiting until several more weeks are complete before publishing these - the opponent adjustments are too difficult to resolve without more data points.
No. 24 is probably as high as Boise State will get? Oh well. At least Idaho's still at the bottom even after a win.
Brian, Based on your article at FO, why did Floriday's strength of schedule plunge from 23 preseason to 47 after week 1. At the same time odds an elite team would run their schedule went up from 19.6% to 29.4%. Which opponent(s) suddenly looks worse after one week? Did Georgia's loss make that big a difference? Thanks.
As a follow-up, I see TN's FEI took a rather sharp drop too (.113 and #23 to .06 and #40) I know W. Ky is awful but the Vols killed them -- even exceeding your game projection by a ton.) What on earth happened in the drive data to cause the hit (and I assume a hit to Florida's SOS as well)?
Florida's SOS dip is almost exclusively attributable to the losses by Georgia and Florida State (two of the top four teams on the Gators' schedule).
As for Tennessee, the non-garbage portion of the game (and the part that is used for GE and FEI) concluded with the 21st possession with the score at 42-7. The projected GE was slightly higher than the actual one, in fact, so the Volunteers actually underperformed.
Thankks for writing
